Winter Activities in Chattanooga

Chattanooga is just as wonderful a getaway destination during the winter months as it is during the remainder of the year.  The weather is mild enough most of the time, so it’s enjoyable to be outside.  When it’s time to head indoors, there’s plenty here for those days, too.  On those occasions when snow does fall, the Scenic City transforms into a magical winter wonderland.  No matter what the weather has in store, here are our favorite ideas for having fun in Chattanooga this winter:

  • Lookout Mountain, visible from nearly any location around Chattanooga, is home to some of the city’s best attractions.  Just across the street from our luxurious Inn, you’ll find the entrance to Rock City Gardens, where you’ll enjoy a unique opportunity to explore nature and history.  Walk the 4,100 foot trail through lush gardens, and enjoy the breathtaking views over the Chattanooga Valley.  Or, descend deep into the mountain to view Ruby Falls, a a 145-foot underground waterfall.  You’ll have to travel through a cave filled with geological wonders to get there.
  • Winter getaway to ChattanoogaTake a hike into the mountains around Chattanooga, and enjoy the views from above.  Favorite places to hike include Lookout Mountain, especially to Sunset Rock, Signal Mountain, Raccoon Mountain, and Stringers Ridge.  You can read about other fantastic places for winter hiking in a past blog about the subject.
  • Go birding at Audubon Acres, where you’ll find many year-round bird watching opportunities.
  • Ice Skating at Ice on the Landing’s outdoor rink at Choo Choo Gardens, which is open now through mid-January.
  • Go rock climbing at High Point Fitness Center in downtown Chattanooga.  It’s certainly bound to be one of the most unique climbing experiences you’ve ever had.
  • Skiers and snowboarders can find good, local hills about an hour away at Cloudmont Ski and Golf Resort in Mentone, Alabama.  Though you’ll definitely have fun on the slopes, the best part of this will be returning to the incredible nightlife Chattanooga has to offer, and the luxurious accommodations at our Bed and Breakfast.
  • The Tennessee Aquarium, the world’s largest freshwater aquarium, is Chattanooga’s most popular attraction.  It’s the perfect place to spend time when you don’t feel like heading outdoors.
  • Another place to stay warm and dry is the Hunter Museum of American Art, located in the famously beautiful Bluff View Arts District.

Whether you choose to spend your day inside or out, the perfect ending to any day in Chattanooga will be dinner followed by curling up in front of a cozy fire at our Bed and Breakfast.  Book your stay at our Chattanooga Bed and Breakfast today, and come see for yourself how great Chattanooga can be during the winter.
