Fall Visit to Cloudland Canyon State Park
October 5, 2017
The Chattanooga area is home to so many wonderful parks and natural areas. It’s no wonder this area has been named the “Best Town Ever” by Outside Magazine, and one of the “Top 45 Places to Go” by the New York Times. This incredible city is nestled in the Tennessee River Valley, between the mountains of Southeast Tennessee. Whether you’re looking for a cultural getaway filled with great food, museums, and other attractions, or a getaway focused on getting outside and exploring, Chattanooga has it all. One of our favorite places to explore is in neighboring Georgia, just a short 25 minute drive from the Chanticleer Inn Bed and Breakfast. Reserve a room at our luxury Bed and Breakfast, and come explore the stunning Cloudland Canyon State Park this fall.
Georgia’s Cloudland Canyon State Park is located on Lookout Mountain, just outside of Downtown Chattanooga. It’s one of the largest parks in the state of Georgia, and should definitely make its way to the top of your “to-see” list. It’s a breathtakingly beautiful place to go hiking, especially during these late fall months. Here, you’ll find towering boulders, steep limestone, sandstone, and shale cliffs, stunning overlooks, and gently winding steams and waterfalls throughout the park. The scenic Waterfall Trail in Cloudland Canyon is a particular favorite, providing access to two incredible waterfalls: Cherokee and Hemlock Falls. The hike is fairly short at just over 2 miles roundtrip, but the steep descent can feel strenuous.
If you’re not up for a strenuous hike, considering taking the short Overlook Trail, where you’ll get to see the famous views this park is known for, or the more moderate West Rim Loop Trail. This popular park also has an 18-hole disc golf course, wild caves available for touring, a fishing pond, trails for horseback riding, and picnicking grounds.
Bicyclists and hikers looking for extended opportunities are now in luck, as Cloudland Canyon State Park is now accessible via trail from downtown Chattanooga. Thanks to work done by the Lula Lake Land Trust, the Tennessee Riverwalk now connects to this extraordinary park via the Chattanooga Connector Trail, and a network of other trails.
After a day of hiking and exploring at Cloudland Canyon State Park, relax in the luxurious accommodations of The Chanticleer Inn Bed and Breakfast. There’s no finer choice of lodging in all of Chattanooga. Make your reservation today.
