History comes to life on the TN River, Chattanooga

October 15th, 2010 by

It’s a gorgeous time of year to spend on the water and take in a little history.

A sailing museum floated into Downtown Chattanooga and is now docked at the City Pier.

Two Columbus ship replicas are quite a sight.

The Niña and Pinta are open to the public for self-guided tours.

You can step back into history on the Tennessee River.

Replicas of the ships Christopher Columbus sailed are docked downtown, at the city pier.

The Nina is an exact replica, build by hand with no power tools and is considered the most historically-correct Columbus ship ever built. In fact, it was used in the movie “1492” starring Gerard Ddepardieu.

The Pinta was built a little larger to accommodate day sails.

Both ships will be in Chattanooga City port through November 2nd. The public can take a self-guided tour of them from 9am to 6pm daily.

Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $5 for students.

The Chanticleer Inn Bed and Breakfast is only 10 minutes from downtown Chattanooga and a mountain top away.
